"Raag Tarang" - Celebrating Asian Youth Music - Tarang is a dynamic ensemble of 'maestros in the making', rising stars from around the UK . Tarang presents a unique blend of traditional and contemporary South Asian melodies, performed by outstanding musicians trained in the North Indian, South Indian and Western classical styles. It's vibrant and soulful, exhilarating and serene, something for everyone to enjoy. A unique artistic creation: Tarang is unique because it presents the diverse styles of Indian music together, performed by dynamic young performers. Because of their ability to understand and play both Western and Indian Music, the ensemble is an exciting phenomenon that has never been seen or heard before!
Tarang performs as a full ensemble, representing Sitar, Saxophone, Santoor, Bansuri, Tabla, Veena, Mridangam, Violin, Guitar and vocals, presenting a fresh and contemporary Indian music sound, rooted in the classical form. The ensemble also performs in smaller groups, from duos or jugalbandis to mid-size ensembles, representing the Hindustani, Carnatic and contemporary Indian music forms. Tarang has performed as part of Milapfest's year-round festival, at the Leicester International Music Festival, at venues around the UK, and in 2005, as part of the opening ceremony of World Music expo WOMEX at The Sage Gateshead.
RAAG TARANG, is a special event by TARANG for Surdhwani.
At this special event, on Tarang's first appearance in Wolverhampton, you will hear a special selection of Classical Raga based music, performed by the classical instruments of Tarang, including Bansuri, Sitar, Violin, Santoor, Tabla and Mridangam.
Sanchita Pal will sing thumris, dadras and other light classical varities at this concert in the second half of the event.
Sanchita Pal is the artistic director of Sur-nandan, based in Birmingham. She is classical and light classical singer with a mellifluous voice and has given performances in a number of countries of the world including India and United Kingdom as a soloist as well as part of a band. She has learnt from many illustrious vocal maestros such as Dr Amiya Ranjan Banerjee from Calcutta. At present she is under the tutelage of Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty.
