A Dance Extravaganza -Bharatnatyam & Odissi

Deepa Ganesh, the artistic director of Upasana, a South Asian organisation based in Didsbury, has been performing in the field of Bharatanatyam for over a decade and a half. She has won many laurels and acclaims through the many performances she has given all over India. Deepa started her Bharatanatyam career under the tutelage of Padmashri late K.N.Dandayudapani Pillai. Ever since her Arangetram in 1981, she has been training under Padmashri Adayar Sri K.Lakshmanan. She has specialized in Abhinaya under the guidance of Padmavibhushan Smt.Kalanidhi Narayanan.
Her two daughters Vaishnavi aged 10 and Nivedita aged 8 will accompany Deepa in this performance. They are students of Manchester High School for Girls. Apart from intense training in Bharatanatyam they also learn carnatic vocal, ballet, jazz, modern, cello and piano.
Trained under great Odissi masters such as Padma Bhibhusan Guru Kelucharan Mahapatra, Sujata Mahapatra, Madhavi Mudgal, Sharmila Biswas and the like, Mitali Dev is the artististic director of Nritya Kunj, a dance company based in Manchester. Her training has spanned nearly two decades providing a firm foundation for her distinguished career. She has performed at major dance festivals and venues across the world including Australia, the UK, the USA , Malaysia, Singapore and India. Recently, she was invited to dance at the famous Angkor Wat temple in Cambodia. A founder member of the North West Dance Alliance in the UK, Mitali, who resides in Manchester, is currently researching the folk aspects of Odissi dance especially Mahari, Gotipua and Chau with a view to enhance her repertoire.
